Holidays in China have kind of been hit or miss this year. Thanksgiving went basically uncelebrated, we went to the hospital Christmas day when Alex had the flu, and we had to work on Easter. It’s just one more aspect of living in a different culture. But for the 4th of July, we decided to throw a shindig. I made a flag out of fruit, we made sandwiches with American cheese, made an American playlist and had folks over to play games like, “Signs” and “Say Anything.” We ended up having five Americans, two Chinese, one Aussie and one Irishman celebrate together. It was unlike any 4th of July I’ve ever celebrated back home, but has turned out to be my favorite holiday this year. Happy Independence Day from China!
